STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Say goodbye to your own trash can \u2014 it\u2019s time to purchase an official NYC trash bin ahead of the June deadline. <\/p>\n
New York City homeowners will soon be required to use an official NYC Bin beginning in June. It means all properties with one to nine residential units will be required to use the official NYC Bin for trash set out, according to the city Sanitation Department.<\/p>\n
Previously, as of November 2024, properties were required to use bins, 55 gallons or less, with secure lids for trash put out for removal by the city.<\/p>\n
Agencies, non-profits, houses of worship, and professional offices in residential buildings are also required to use NYC bins. <\/p>\n
They are available for purchase at Home Depot locations across New York City for in-store pickup via homedepot.com\/NYCBins<\/a>, or for delivery through DoorDash<\/a>, Instacart<\/a>, or Uber Eats<\/a>.<\/p>\n On Staten Island, here are the Home Depot locations to buy a NYC Bin:<\/p>\n 2501 Forest Ave., Mariners Harbor545 Targee St., Concord2750 Veterans Rd. West, Charleston<\/p>\n Here are the different size bins for purchase:<\/p>\n 45-gallon bin:\u00a0Recommended for properties with multiple residential units. It can hold up to four kitchen trash bags.35-gallon bin:\u00a0Recommended for small, single-family homes. It can hold up to three kitchen trash bags.25-gallon bin:\u00a0Recommended for properties with space restrictions or not much trash. It can hold up to two kitchen trash bags.<\/p>\n For a 45-gallon bin, the price is $54.60, while the price of a 35-gallon bin is $47.25. The price of a 25-gallon bin is $45.19.<\/p>\n NYC Bins are also available for recycling and composting \u2014 but they are only required for trash, according to the Sanitation Department.<\/p>\n The NYC Bin was unveiled in July 2024 as the next step in New York City\u2019s plan to get black trash bags off the streets.
