\n\tAccording to Robert Hardman\u2019s upcoming book, Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. Her Story<\/a>, out May 19, the late monarch did her best to incorporate Meghan into the palace. In June 2018, just weeks after her wedding to Harry, the Duchess of Sussex and Elizabeth took an overnight trip to Cheshire on the royal train. The train always left at 11 o\u2019clock at night, and the Queen was on the platform to welcome her. Harman believes Meghan and Harry were \u201cin a good place\u201d with the entire royal family at the time \u2014 but as the world knows, things quickly soured between Meghan and Harry and Prince William and Kate Middleton.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cDespite wildly over-optimistic talk of a new royal \u2018dream team\u2019 or, even more fancifully, a \u2018Fab Four\u2019, resentments were growing,\u201d wrote Hardman while noting that the Sussexes\u2019 growing popularity didn\u2019t sit well with the then-Cambridges. That\u2019s when the brothers split offices, and the feud officially became a public spectacle.<\/a><\/p>\n \n\tThe brothers turned against each other, and there were allegations that William\u2019s office was planting stories about Meghan in the British tabloids.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThere\u2019s leaking, but there\u2019s also planting, of sorts. So if the comms team wants to be able to remove a negative story about their principal, they will trade and give you something about someone else\u2019s principal. So the offices end up working against each other,\u201d Harry claimed in the fourth episode of his Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan.<\/a><\/p>\n \n\tThe Duke of Sussex added that he and William \u201cmade an agreement that we would never let that happen to our office\u201d because they both \u201csaw what happened in our dad [King Charles III]\u2019s office\u201d with Princess Diana. Still, that promise was not enough to stop the long-running feud.<\/p>\n \n\tIt\u2019s a reminder of what could have been if Harry and Meghan had felt more welcome at the palace, which has been mired in scandal after scandal<\/a> since the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
