Following our previous look at an opening for a\u00a0Program Director at the Architectural League of New York<\/a>, we are using this week\u2019s edition of our\u00a0Job Highlights series<\/a>\u00a0to explore several open roles on Archinect Jobs for high-end, single-family residential architects at Joseph Vance Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The roles, spanning junior to senior architects, are based in JVA\u2019s Chelsea studio and will focus solely on high-end, custom residential projects in New York City. Among the typologies will be townhouse renovations, new ground-up townhouses, large apartment renovations, and landmark restorations.\u00a0Among the requirements for the roles are strong 3D modelling skills and great design sensibility.<\/p>\n

The open roles for high-end residential projects at Joseph Vance Architects offer us the opportunity to explore recent projects by the firm that exemplify their approach to such schemes. Among the firm\u2019s recent renovations was a brick townhouse in Cobble Hill<\/a>, Brooklyn, which introduced a three-story rear extension. Inside, the home features a two-story living room with steel and glass windows, a new kitchen, and a balcony overlooking the main living space.<\/p>\n

In the Upper West Side, the firm recently oversaw the ground-up construction<\/a> of a five-story townhouse. The team excavated 18 feet into bedrock to accommodate a basketball court, high-definition golf simulator, gym, and home office below the residence. The townhouse features ceiling heights of 10 feet or more on every floor, an elevator, and a rooftop terrace. The ground floor incorporates windows and entry doors set within a deep limestone base, while the upper facade is composed of buff brick with zinc window lintels and sills.<\/p>\n

In Soho, meanwhile, the team converted a historic 1869 manufacturing building<\/a> into an 11,000-square-foot, seven-level single-family residence. The design includes a rooftop penthouse with indoor-outdoor living and a pool, a wellness-focused spa level, a theatre and wine rooms, and an elevator. The renovation addressed complex zoning restrictions by reallocating interior floor area to create a rooftop addition within permitted limits. To increase natural light, a new light shaft and additional side wall windows were introduced.<\/p>\n
