The whitecaps are\u2026I had a whitecap come to my house. The whitecaps are coming to my house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neighbors pointed to the wind as the main reason water is entering their homes.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Proper, a Lakeshore Drive resident, said, \u201cThe wind is the problem. The wave action piles up the water at this end of the lake and the waves come crashing over the seawalls and cause the water to come into this area and it has nowhere to drain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sylvan Beach Fire Department has been helping people, even rescuing some by boat.<\/p>\n<p>Some homeowners are using pumps to try to remove water from their homes, but many said there is nowhere for it to go.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Campanella, a concerned neighbor, said, \u201cI mean, they got some progress, but you can only do so much.\u201d Campanella has been helping neighbors pump water out of basements. National Grid has cut power to some homes, which has left some residents worried about freezing pipes. Campanella said, \u201cWait for it to recede and assess the damage. That\u2019s all, and hopefully nothing shifts on the camps and stuff like that, you know what I mean? No damage, and hopefully it doesn\u2019t freeze.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Proper said, \u201cWe\u2019re hoping that that doesn\u2019t happen to us. Obviously, we need the heat, but we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lakeshore Drive is closed to local traffic as water begins to erode the roadway.<\/p>\n<p>The Town is providing sandbags, but many residents said the flooding has already caused damage.<\/p>\n<p>Powers said, \u201cI hope somebody can help us because this is ridiculous.
