{"id":190951,"date":"2026-04-09T15:05:50","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T15:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/190951\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T15:05:50","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T15:05:50","slug":"maher-metz-combine-for-eight-goals-in-womens-lacrosses-conquering-of-iona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/190951\/","title":{"rendered":"Maher &#038; Metz Combine For Eight Goals In Women&#8217;s Lacrosse&#8217;s Conquering Of Iona"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<br \/>\n &#13;<\/p>\n<p>NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.\u00a0\u2013 The Manhattan Jaspers women&#8217;s lacrosse\u00a0team (3-12, 2-4\u00a0MAAC), anchored by four goals each from <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/lauren-maher\/10235\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10235\" target=\"_blank\">Lauren Maher<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/maya-metz\/12187\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12187\" target=\"_blank\">Maya Metz<\/a>, took home their third victory of the season over the Gaels of Iona\u00a0(3-11, 0-6\u00a0MAAC) by a final score of 13-9\u00a0at Mazzella Field\u00a0on Wednesday\u00a0afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tOff to a slower pace than normal, it was the Gaels who struck first just before six minutes had passed.&#13;<br \/>\n\tShortly after, Maher took the feed from <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/katelynn-naylor\/12205\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12205\" target=\"_blank\">Katelynn Naylor<\/a> to knot up the score just past the midway point of the opening quarter.&#13;<br \/>\n\tMaher also scored the Jaspers&#8217; second goal of the day unassisted to tie the game once again at two-all prior to the end of the first.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe two sides traded goals for a third time to start the second frame, as <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/ella-brunette\/12199\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12199\" target=\"_blank\">Ella Brunette<\/a> threw the first punch and put the Green and White on top briefly.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tManhattan tallied four consecutive scores as the quarter progressed, coming off the sticks of <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/logan-pilon\/12206\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12206\" target=\"_blank\">Logan Pilon<\/a>, Naylor, Maher, and Metz.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn what became the highest-scoring quarter for the visitors by five, Pilon and <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/julia-kerr\/12182\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12182\" target=\"_blank\">Julia Kerr<\/a> rallied for the final two scores before the halftime break, as the visitors held a 9-4 advantage.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tMetz took less than 2:30 out of the locker room to increase the Manhattan margin to six, later followed by securing her hat trick off an assist from Pilon to keep the lead at six through 45 minutes.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe duo of Maher and Metz, in fitting style, finished off the scoring for the Green and White, scoring their 20th and 18th goals of the season, respectively. This is the second MAAC win of Manhattan&#8217;s season, both of which came on the road.\u00a0&#13;<\/p>\n<p>STATS AND NOTES<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tSenior attackers <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/lauren-maher\/10235\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10235\" target=\"_blank\">Lauren Maher<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/maya-metz\/12187\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12187\" target=\"_blank\">Maya Metz<\/a> each led the team with four goals apiece. That figure stands as a new career-high for Maher, and the second-highest total for Metz this season (five, @ Furman on 3\/17).\u00a0\u00a0The two also combined for three assists, amassing their total of combined points to 11.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tFreshman attacker <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/logan-pilon\/12206\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12206\" target=\"_blank\">Logan Pilon<\/a> was the lone other Jasper to accumulate a multi-goal outing, her fourth such performance of 2026.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tSenior defender <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/naomi-aristone\/10187\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10187\" target=\"_blank\">Naomi Aristone<\/a> both collected the most ground balls (three) and caused the most turnovers (two) amongst her teammates in the Green and White.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tJunior midfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/audrey-ziff\/10217\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10217\" target=\"_blank\">Audrey Ziff<\/a> won the most draw controls with seven.\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tRedshirt Junior goalkeeper <a href=\"https:\/\/gojaspers.com\/sports\/womens-lacrosse\/roster\/sophie-pasnak\/10241\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"10241\" target=\"_blank\">Sophie Pasnak<\/a> logged 15 saves through a full 60 minutes, her highest total in a win this season.\u00a0&#13;<\/p>\n<p>NEXT UP:<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan will continue its 2026 campaign on Saturday, April 11 when the Jaspers\u00a0complete their three-game road stint, concluding against the Warriors from Merrimack.
