{"id":191176,"date":"2026-04-09T18:33:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T18:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/191176\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T18:33:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T18:33:10","slug":"all-aboard-at-the-new-york-transit-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/191176\/","title":{"rendered":"All aboard at the New York Transit Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN \u2014 JODI SHAPIRO, CURATOR of the New York City Transit Museum, located in a decommissioned 1936 subway station at 99 Schermerhorn St., recently spoke to the Brooklyn Eagle about the museum\u2019s unique exhibits, her job as a curator and what makes Brooklyn special.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro has been curator since 2016 and said that while there are many things that make the New York Transit Museum unique, the biggest is that parts of their collection are not just on display, they move. \u201cOur fleet of historic subway cars and buses still operates, and visitors can actually ride them beyond the museum walls,\u201d Shapiro said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Transit Museum opened on July 4, 1976, as part of the United States\u2019 Bicentennial celebrations and was originally intended to only be open through that summer.
