QUEEN CREEK, AZ (AZFamily) \u2014 The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has confirmed another measles case and possible exposure sites in the East Valley.<\/p>\n
Health officials say the patient is a Maricopa County resident, but that the case is not tied to previous cases reported earlier in the year<\/a>. However, MCDPH also doesn\u2019t know where this person was exposed to measles.<\/p>\n Department staff is working with local and state officials to notify people who might have been exposed and to watch for symptoms. MCDPH has identified three locations in Queen Creek where people could have been exposed at specific times and days:<\/p>\n LocationAddressDateTimeWatch for symptoms until:Costco20260 S. People who were at the above locations on the specific dates and times should watch for symptoms, which typically appear seven to 12 days after exposure. However, in some cases, symptoms may not appear until 21 days.<\/p>\n Symptoms include:<\/p>\n High fever above 101 degreesRed, watery eyesCough Runny nose<\/p>\n Officials say measles is preventable with two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, typically given during childhood. Adults need at least one dose of MMR vaccine given after the age of one.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve prevented measles outbreaks for years by staying up to date on vaccinations,\u201d said Dr. Maria Merrick, assistant medical director for MCDPH. \u201cIf you\u2019ve been meaning to get the measles vaccine, this is your reminder.
