STAMFORD, CT \u2014 A Stamford man was arrested late last month and accused of driving while intoxicated with two young children in the car, according to New York State Police.<\/p>\n
Leopoldo Lima Flores, 37, was arrested and charged with two counts of DWI with a child passenger less than 16, also known as Leandra’s Law in New York State.<\/p>\n
On March 29 at approximately 3:31 a.m., state troopers conducted a traffic stop on I-95 northbound in Rye, N.Y., on a 2026 Honda CRV state police say committed traffic law violations.<\/p>\n
Troopers detected signs of alcohol impairment after speaking with the driver, who was identified as Lima Flores, state police said.<\/p>\n
“Standardized field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test were administered, which returned positive results for alcohol impairment. Further investigation revealed that two children under the age of 16 were in the vehicle,” state police said. “The children were turned over to his wife, who was in the vehicle at the time.”<\/p>\n
Lima Flores, who was also issued several uniform traffic tickets, was taken to NY State Police barracks in New Rochelle, N.Y., for processing. State police said he was later released to his wife <\/p>\n
Lima Flores is due in Rye City Court on April 24.<\/p>\n
Leandra’s Law (Child Passenger Protection Act) is named after 11-year-old Leandra Rosado who was killed in a car crash after the driver, who was accused of drinking for several hours before the crash, lost control of her vehicle on the Henry Hudson Parkway, state police noted.<\/p>\n
