As the city marks Zohran Mamdani\u2019s 100th day as mayor, a lot of New Yorkers are experiencing buyer\u2019s remorse \u2014 while the rest are saying, \u201cWe told you so.\u201d<\/p>\n
For the most part, his mayoralty so far has been marked by a lot of bluster \u2014 crying about Islamophobia, racism and his quest for higher taxes \u2014 but not much else. <\/p>\n
At the same time, he\u2019s admitted reality in dropping some of his signature lunatic ideas: free buses, scrapping a key NYPD unit, etc.<\/p>\n
The lefty media is still starry eyed for him, and his pro-terror wife, even as a majority of New Yorkers say the city is on the wrong track, an Emerson College poll found. <\/p>\n
But how is Mamdani actually doing? Let\u2019s grade his work.<\/p>\n

Crime: Mamdani has never made crime a priority<\/a>, and he has a long record of slamming those who fight it.\u00a0<\/p>\n He\u2019s called out the cops for nonexistent racism and proudly supported people who try to kill them.\u00a0<\/p>\n This week he boasted that he was taking \u201cbold, unapologetic actions to protect New Yorkers.\u201d Adding more cops? Stepping up patrols?<\/p>\n No: \u201cDoubling down on Sanctuary Cities and committing firmly to closing Rikers,\u201d his self-mocking press release reads.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, his Department of Community Safety<\/a> got downgraded to a mere office that will do nothing to improve safety, but might well siphon needed resources from actual cops, even as Mamdani refuses to pay for more<\/a> hires to offset an ongoing officer exodus.\u00a0<\/p>\n On the plus side, the crime news so far has been good, with record-low numbers of murders and shooting incidents.\u00a0<\/p>\n But the credit for that goes exclusively to the hard work of NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and the men and women of the department.\u00a0<\/p>\n Grade: B-. Tisch did all the work, while Zo recorded TikToks.<\/p>\n The economy: When jobs are fleeing and big guns like JP Morgan Chase\u2019s Jaime Dimon are warning of a corporate mass exodus, a responsible mayor would take a hard look at how his economic plans \u2014 taxing the rich, raising minimum wages, freezing rents \u2014 are playing out in the real world.\u00a0<\/p>\n Not Mamdani!<\/a> Instead, he put out an extensive plan to impose wokeness, under which opportunity is to be doled out by skin color.<\/p>\n It\u2019s already drawn the attention of the Justice Department.\u00a0<\/p>\n The mayor also issued a bizarre \u201cTrue Cost of Living\u201d report, using a made-up stat to back the preposterous claim that 62% of New Yorkers don\u2019t earn enough to \u201cfully participate in the economy and save for the future.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Everyone hoping for a modicum of economic sense from City Hall should stop holding their breath.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our columnists\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Grade: F-. The mayor clearly never took the prerequisite course, Econ 101.<\/p>\n Budget: Mamdani\u2019s facing a $7.1 billion hole (don\u2019t buy his fake $5.4 billion number), yet the best he can do is pretend to look under sofa cushions and threaten to slam New Yorkers with a property tax if Albany won\u2019t raise other taxes.\u00a0<\/p>\n Meanwhile, he\u2019s already dropping or shrinking his campaign promises \u2014 is he demanding more cash simply to keep feeding the beast of the nonprofit-profiteer industrial complex and city-employee unions?<\/p>\n With a $7.1 billion hole, we\u2019re still wondering how he\u2019ll square that circle.\u00a0<\/p>\n Grade: F-. He\u2019s unable to grasp the core problem: Taxes and revenue are sky-high, but spending is far higher.<\/p>\n Education: Mamdani went to the private Bank Street School, which costs $66,000 per year. So no one should be surprised about his contempt for the less-affluent who have no choice but to rely on New York\u2019s once-great public-school system.<\/p>\n No shock, then, that he appointed Kamar Samuels, a noted hater of gifted and talented programs, as schools chancellor.\u00a0<\/p>\n Samuels is a similar hypocrite, having sent his own kid to Browning, another private school set up to educate John D. Rockefeller<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
