Manhattan High boys\u2019 golf placed second Thursday at the Great Plains Classic, hosted by Washburn Rural at Wamego Country Club.<\/p>\n
The Indians shot a team score of 303, finishing just two strokes behind champion Olathe Northwest, which posted a 301. Blue Valley Northwest (307), Mill Valley (308) and Lawrence (309) rounded out the top five in a tightly packed field that saw the top eight teams separated by just 10 strokes.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Charlie Haney led the way for Manhattan, earning medalist honors with a 2-under 68 in his first meet of the season. He was the only golfer in the field to finish under par, edging Mill Valley\u2019s Ian Field (70) and Lawrence Free State\u2019s Cash Nelson (73).<\/p>\n
Senior Cade Cochran followed in 11th place with a 75, while senior Cooper Graham added a 79 in 32nd place. Junior Harvey Lister carded an 81 in 51st place to round out the Indians\u2019 team score, and senior Will Carpenter and sophomore Graham Braxmeyer each shot 89, tying 79th.<\/p>\n
The performance marked a strong early-season showing for Manhattan in its second meet of the spring, following a fourth-place finish at the Lawrence Free State Invitational to open the year.<\/p>\n
