New York state Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan will not seek reelection in 2026, the Republican lawmaker announced Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving the privilege of representing the people of the mighty 131st Assembly District has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am incredibly grateful for your trust, your support, and all of the incredible friendships I\u2019ve built along the way,\u201d Gallahan said in a statement. \u201cAfter a great deal of prayer and reflection with my wife, Lynn, and our two children, Jackie and Corey, I have made the difficult decision not to seek re-election this November due to recent health challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gallahan did not elaborate further on those health challenges.<\/p>\n
Gallahan was first elected to the 131st Assembly District in 2020, succeeding former Minority Leader Brian Kolb, which includes portions of Ontario, Seneca, Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Broome and Chenango counties.<\/p>\n
He most recently has served on the Assembly Committee on Correction. His district is home to the Cayuga Correctional Facility in Auburn.<\/p>\n
Prior to the Assembly, Gallahn served as the Manchester town supervisor and town councilman. \u00a0He was also a journeyman machinist at the General Railway Signal Company.<\/p>\n
Gallahan joins a number of state legislators from both parties who have decided not to seek another term this fall.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though I won\u2019t be seeking re-election, my work is far from finished.
