\u201cYou cannot come here from Rhode Island and dump your license plate,\u201d the mayor said, holding up the license plate.<\/p>\n
He had donned a DSNY vest and picked up litter for a bit in Soundview.<\/p>\n

The event marked the culmination of a weeks-long competition he dubbed \u201cMunicipal Madness,\u201d where 21,000 votes were cast by New Yorkers to select a winner from a list of 16 things in need of fixing across the city

They all were fixed, but the mayor would only do the winner himself. It\u2019s a recognition, he says, of the day-to-day needs of the city he now leads<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of this should be clean. We have so many New Yorkers that live right around here who deserve the kinds of conditions that any New Yorker does,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The scene in Soundview was riddled with piles of trash neighbors said are usually left overnight.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also don\u2019t want a one-and-done. We want them to monitor it, to keep it clean,\u201d Tracy Jennings, who lives in the neighborhood, said.<\/p>\n
With every can and plastic bag gone, it was clear the mayor had won some fans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re taking this thing serious. The amount of garbage accumulated in our neighborhood is disgusting,\u201d Victor Garrido, who lives around the corner, said.<\/p>\n
After some time, the roadway had clearly improved, with neighbors saying it\u2019s a good start for Mayor Mamdani.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think so far, so good. I am not going to go ahead and say, \u2018rah, rah, rah.\u2019 I like to see it.
