\u201cIn one day to hit three mills and get 90 pounds of fentanyl… to see this in an apartment is not common,\u201d Drug Enforcement Agency Special Agent in Charge Christopher Roberts said.<\/p>\n

What investigators found inside looked nothing like an apartment. Instead, a full-scale fentanyl packaging mill hidden behind a residential door.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs far as the NYPD goes, this is a significant, significant seizure,\u201d NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said.<\/p>\n
It was 90 pounds of fentanyl totaling $7.5 million, according to officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe like to see bags going in, not bags going out, because bags going out means they\u2019re going to be distributed,\u201d Roberts said.<\/p>\n
This time, they got there before it could. Eight people were arrested, with two loaded guns recovered.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese traffickers need to know that we will not stop,\u201d Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clarke said.<\/p>\n
That vigilance is urgent. According to officials, overdose deaths dropped 28% in 2024, but fentanyl still killed nearly three out of four victims, with the Bronx the hardest-hit borough in the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause we are New York City and we are a central distribution hub for this drug, we have to be extra vigilant,\u201d\u00a0Special Narcotics Prosecutor of New York Bridget Brennan said.<\/p>\n
And the drug\u2019s danger didn\u2019t spare the investigators themselves.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe dog was a little lethargic, and [it] was dragging its back legs as it was walking,\u201d Kenny said.<\/p>\n
The K-9, Mulk, needed two doses of Narcan, after being exposed to the drug, highlighting the dangers investigators face during drug busts.
