It looks like the Mets\u2019 injury bug<\/a> has infected the SNY broadcast booth as well.<\/p>\n

Midway through the Mets\u2019 4-0 loss to the Athletics<\/a> on Friday, Keith Hernandez revealed that he will be undergoing back surgery on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t happen soon enough,\u201d Hernandez said during the WPIX broadcast<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ll be the first one under the knife, and I\u2019ll feel better, hopefully.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hernandez, 72, added that he is hoping to return to the booth for the Mets\u2019 home series against the Rockies, which starts on April 24.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m shooting to come back during the Rockies series over the weekend home here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He then joked with fellow commentators Gary Cohen and Ron Darling, with Hernandez saying that they don\u2019t think he\u2019s gonna make it out of surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know you don\u2019t think I\u2019ll make it,\u201d Hernandez said while the others can be heard laughing in the background.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope you do, I\u2019m rooting for you, Keith,\u201d Cohen quickly interjected.<\/p>\n

The broadcast then panned to a graphic titled \u201cGet Well Soon Keith,\u201d which showed a man lying on an island with a full-body cast.<\/p>\n

This is not the first time that Hernandez has had back surgery, having repaired a ruptured disk back in 2019.<\/p>\n

Ahead of this season, Hernandez signed a three-year deal to remain at SNY<\/a> that reduced his workload from 110 games to 95.<\/p>\n

Hernandez\u2019s back troubles have already caused him to miss a few games this year, notably being absent from the Mets\u2019 west-coast series against the Giants earlier this month, where the Amazin\u2019s took three of four games from San Francisco.<\/p>\n

During Tuesday\u2019s 4-3 over the Diamondbacks, Hernandez said that he tried watching the Giants series<\/a> back at home, but San Francisco played so terribly that he had to turn it off.<\/p>\n

\u201cI tried to watch the Giants series, Gare, but the Giants played so horribly that I had to turn it off,\u201d Hernandez said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHad nothing to do with you guys. It just was \u2026 the defense, I just was stunned,\u201d Hernandez continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it was finally 6-0, I turned it off,\u201d he added while mimicking turning off a television.<\/p>\n
