A chronic criminal slashed three elderly people with a machete \u2014while calling himself \u201cLucifer\u201d \u2014 in an unprovoked attack and was fatally shot by cops at Grand Central Terminal Saturday morning, police said.<\/p>\n

An 85-year-old man and a 65-year-old man were slashed in their heads on the 4, 5, 6 subway platform at the iconic station at 9:50 a.m., police said. A 70-year-old woman was also slashed, but it wasn\u2019t clear where on her body, cops said.<\/p>\n

Blood-soaked white gauze was wrapped around one victim\u2019s head, photos from the scene show. The slasher was also seen being carried away on a gurney.<\/p>\n

Two NYPD detectives, who were working overtime to provide transit security, confronted the 44-year-old, identified as Anthony Griffin, and told him to drop the machete.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the top of the stairs, they observed the individual on the platform, and they immediately ordered him to drop the knife,\u201d Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference at the scene. \u201cThe individual was armed with a large knife described as a machete and was behaving erratically, repeatedly stating that he was Lucifer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Griffin refused to comply \u201cwith at least 20 orders to drop the knife,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Officers also \u201cattempted to deescalate\u201d and offer assistance, saying \u201cWe are going to get you help,\u201d Tisch told reporters.<\/p>\n

But Griffin advanced toward them with the blade extended, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne officer discharged his firearm striking the perpetrator twice,\u201d Tisch said.<\/p>\n

The victims were taken to local hospitals in stable condition, cops said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NYPD is conducting an internal investigation and will release body-worn camera footage, as it does in all incidents involving the discharge of an officer\u2019s firearm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Claudio Delgado, 53, was in the main hall of Grand Central when the chaos erupted after getting off his train from Connecticut to visit his mother in the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was coming from Connecticut when \u2018Boom!\u2019 everyone got down on the floor fast,\u201d the 53-year-old said. \u201cThen the police said, \u2018Get outta here! Get outta here fast!\u2019 They said it was somebody with a gun and police were involved too. It\u2019s scary. This is how New York City is now. It\u2019s too much violence in New York City now.\u201d<\/p>\n

A worker at the station, who declined to give his name, was also rattled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw them [paramedics], they came up with somebody on the stretcher, and they were pumping his chest,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy. You could be on the platform minding your business, and someone had a machete, it\u2019s scary, scary, scary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Worker Jessica Munoz, who\u2019s employed at the Bourke Street Bakery near the subway entrance, saw people running out of the station at East 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was scared, we don\u2019t know what we can do, we just see the people running, and I asked the guy and he said there was a shooting downstairs,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s scary, we didn\u2019t know what we could do.
