More than a dozen staffers from Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell<\/a>‘s congressional office and campaign released an unsigned statement Saturday expressing support for women who have accused the California congressman of sexual misconduct<\/a>, as the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced it has opened an investigation into an alleged 2024 incident involving Swalwell in New York.<\/p>\n

The DA’s office urged anyone with knowledge of the alleged incident to contact its special victims division, according to the Associated Press. The statement from staffers, first reported by Politico, came one day after at least four top advisers abandoned Swalwell’s campaign for California governor, which has been in freefall since the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN published allegations Friday \u2014 including from a former staffer who says Swalwell sexually assaulted her twice while she was too intoxicated to consent.<\/p>\n

“We stand with our former colleague, and the other women who have come forward,” the staffers’ statement reads. “The behavior detailed in these reports is abhorrent, beneath the dignity of those serving in public office and betrays the trust of all Californians.” Staffers added that any colleagues who remain during a transition period should not be seen as endorsing Swalwell. Swalwell has denied all allegations, calling them “flat false,” and says he intends to remain in the race.<\/p>\n
