ALBANY — The heat is on.

By the middle of the week, temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-80s in Orange County and the lower 80s in portions of the mid-Hudson Valley region — a double-digit deviation from the 30-year average, according to the National Weather Service.

The summerlike heat could begin to set in across the valley on Monday and last through Thursday, before declining to the milder upper and mid-70s on Friday.

Similarly, in the Capital Region, temperatures are anticipated to climb as high as near 80 on Thursday before dropping as a result of a cold front. The mid-week uptick could come with lows in the upper 50s, which are usually seen in June, noted meteorologist Joe Villani, who works for the National Weather Service in Albany.

The forecasted blast of heat would easily surpass that of any other day over the last four months. The highest temperature recorded this year in Albany was 76 degrees on March 10.

Despite the highs expected this week, the weather pattern echoes a summer preview upstate New York experienced last year. Heat settled into the Capital Region during this same week in 2025, reaching 81 degrees in Albany on April 18, a Saturday.

“To give you a perspective, our normal high temperature is 58 here in Albany,” Villani said. “So even as we get through the week, typically we see temperatures normally in the upper 50s for highs, but we’re going to be well above that this week and probably a good 15 to 20 degrees above normal.”

Villani also anticipates a chance of showers and thunderstorms “pretty much each day” this week in the Capital Region. Those chances are especially higher on Tuesday and Thursday, during the afternoon and evening hours, Villani said.

Humidity levels are also expected to climb across the Capital Region and Hudson Valley before eventually dropping at the end of the week.

“Relative to how it usually is in April, it’ll feel a little bit humid, but based on summer humidity, it will not really be super humid,” Villani said.

ALBANY — The heat is on.
