A shocking attack unfolded inside New York City<\/a>‘s Grand Central Station on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

The incident left three people seriously injured before the suspect was fatally shot by police.<\/p>\n

Authorities say a man armed with a machete carried out the violent assault, targeting multiple victims in a matter of minutes.<\/p>\n

The suspect allegedly slashed an 84-year-old man and a 65-year-old man around the head and face. Before attacking a 70-year-old woman, who suffered cuts to her shoulder.<\/p>\n

New York City Subway Attack Leaves Three Injured<\/p>\n

Police later identified the suspect as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin. He ignored “at least 20 demands” to drop his weapon.<\/p>\n

During the incident, he also referred to himself as “Lucifer.”<\/p>\n

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Griffin entered the subway system via the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue station in Queens. He then boarded a 7 train toward Grand Central-42 Street.<\/p>\n

Once there, he launched his attack, first slashing one victim on the platform. Before moving upstairs and injuring two more people.<\/p>\n

“The individual was armed with a large knife, described as a machete, and was behaving erratically, repeatedly stating that he was Lucifer,” Tisch said, via BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tisch confirmed that the 84-year-old victim suffered “significant lacerations” to the head and face.<\/p>\n

The 65-year-old man sustained “similar injuries,” as well as an open skull fracture.<\/p>\n

Police Fatally Shoot Suspect After Confrontation<\/p>\n

Two transit officers responded to the scene at around 9:40 a.m. local time, where they encountered Griffin.<\/p>\n

According to police, he then “advanced towards the officers with the knife extended.” This prompted one officer to fire two shots.<\/p>\n

Officers immediately attempted “life-saving measures,” but Griffin was later pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.<\/p>\n

“Our officers were confronted with an armed individual who had already injured multiple people and was continuing to pose a threat,” Tisch said, via KPTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“They gave clear commands. They attempted to de-escalate. And when that threat did not stop, they took decisive action to stop it and to protect New Yorkers on one of the busiest train platforms in the city.”<\/p>\n

Police confirmed Griffin had three prior arrests, though no history of Emotionally Disturbed Person (EDP) reports.<\/p>\n

Tisch noted<\/a> that incidents like this are “very rare,” but said the NYPD has increased officer presence in subway stations to reassure the public.<\/p>\n

All three victims were transported to the hospital and are not believed to have life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
