New Jersey\u2019s largest teachers<\/a> union, which has endorsed Democrat governor candidate Mikie Sherrill, will host a drag queen event days after the November election. <\/p>\n

The New Jersey Education Association, which has 200,000 members as the Garden State\u2019s chapter of the National Education Association<\/a>, will host its annual convention on Nov. 6 and 7, two days after the gubernatorial election. At the convention, the NJEA Consortium\u2014a union project undertaken with education and \u201csocial justice\u201d organizations\u2014will host a Friday event called \u201cDrag is Not a Crime: The Past, Present, and Future of Drag.\u201d<\/p>\n

The convention\u2019s floor plan also includes a booth dedicated to the drag theme<\/a>. The NJEA convention theme puts \u201clearning\u201d third\u2014after \u201cequity\u201d and \u201cjustice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NJEA\u2019s 125-member PAC Operating Committee unanimously endorsed Sherrill<\/a> in September. Sherrill, a former naval officer and prosecutor currently serving in Congress, met with the PAC\u2019s steering committee, while her Republican opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, did not. <\/p>\n

The NJEA\u2019s support for transgender ideology<\/a> echoes Sherrill\u2019s voting record in Congress. <\/p>\n

Ciattarelli has condemned Sherrill<\/a> for supporting \u201cboys in girls sports,\u201d and she has reportedly been silent<\/a> on the issue while on the campaign trail. <\/p>\n

Yet Sherrill repeatedly voted for legislation that would require schools and other institutions to allow boys to compete in girls sports and against legislation that would prevent it.<\/p>\n

Sherrill co-sponsored HR 5<\/a>, the Equality Act, which would amend federal civil rights laws to prohibit discrimination on the basis of \u201csexual orientation\u201d and \u201cgender identity.\u201d She repeatedly<\/a> voted<\/a> for the measure, which would have forced schools to allow boys to compete in girls sports.<\/p>\n

She also co-sponsored a resolution<\/a> calling for a \u201cTransgender Bill of Rights\u201d that endorsed controversial medical interventions euphemistically referred to as \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d and that expressed support for allowing boys in girls sports and girls\u2019 bathrooms.<\/p>\n

She also repeatedly voted<\/a> against the Protection<\/a> of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which would have prevented boys from competing in girls sports.<\/p>\n

The Sherrill campaign did not respond to The Daily Wire\u2019s request<\/a> for comment about the NJEA drag event. <\/p>\n

\u201cDrag might not be a crime, but looking the other way while 80% of third graders in some of New Jersey\u2019s schools can\u2019t read at grade level should be,\u201d a Ciattarelli campaign strategist told the Wire. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe NJEA and far-left politicians like Mikie Sherrill could care less about education or teachers,\u201d the strategist added. \u201cThe NJEA\u2019s core mission is preserving political power, pushing an extreme \u2018woke\u2019 agenda on young children, and propping up out-of-touch politicians like Mikie Sherrill who vote against parental rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both Sherrill and Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger have sought to avoid the transgender issue, as polls consistently suggest<\/a> voters oppose allowing boys in girls sports and men in women\u2019s bathrooms.<\/p>\n
