The city Department of Transportation will present project details and host public workshops beginning April 23 that will change how vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists move through the major artery.

City officials are starting the public input process for a major transportation project at Grand Army Plaza, which looks to change the way buses, bikes and pedestrian use the artery.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Flynn on Monday announced a plan to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety at Grand Army Plaza by connecting the Soldiers\u2019 and Sailors\u2019 Memorial Arch to Prospect Park. The project aims to make it easier to travel around and through the plaza, including by streamlining bus service on the B41 and B6 routes.<\/p>\n

The plan also includes changing how vehicles travel to and from Flatbush Avenue to Eastern Parkway, according to DOT diagrams.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cGrand Army Plaza is the gateway to Brooklyn\u2019s backyard, Prospect Park \u2014 and it should welcome New Yorkers with street design that puts safety first,\u201d Mamdani said in a statement. \u201cAnyone who\u2019s tried to cross here knows how dangerous and chaotic the streets can be. This redesign is long overdue and will provide a sense of ease and enjoyment to one of Brooklyn\u2019s most important public spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

The DOT will be hosting three virtual and in-person public sessions:<\/p>\n


\n\tThursday, April 23 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm: Visit NYC DOT’s tent south of the Soldiers\u2019 and Sailors\u2019 Arch in Grand Army Plaza. In case of rain, the event will be held in the Grand Lobby of the Brooklyn Public Library. Please use the main entrance. <\/p>\n


\n\tSaturday, April 25 from 10:00am to 1:00pm: Visit our tent south of the Soldiers\u2019 and Sailors\u2019 Arch in Grand Army Plaza. In case of rain, the event will be held in the Civic Commons area of the Brooklyn Public Library. Please use the Flatbush Avenue Entrance. <\/p>\n

More information and a community feedback survey will be posted online the day of the workshops at nyc.gov\/grandarmyplaza.<\/a> The survey will be available through Sunday, May 31.<\/p>\n
