HARRISBURG, DAUPHIN CO. (WOLF) \u2014 A New York man will serve time in prison after admitting to a widespread identity theft scheme that targeted liquor stores across multiple Pennsylvania counties.<\/p>\n
Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that 26-year-old Eugene Antwi, of Brooklyn, was sentenced in Dauphin County to 4 to 23 months behind bars, followed by two years of probation. He was also ordered to repay more than $66,000.<\/p>\n
Investigators say Antwi used stolen credit and debit card information, along with fake identities, to place more than 200 online orders for high-end liquor. Authorities say he later picked up those purchases in person at state-run Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores across 21 counties.<\/p>\n
Much of the activity was concentrated in Philadelphia and surrounding suburban counties, though officials say the scheme stretched across a wide portion of the state.<\/p>\n
The thefts occurred between August 2023 and September 2024 and included expensive brands such as Johnnie Walker Scotch and Don Julio tequila.<\/p>\n
According to prosecutors, the volume of alcohol purchased far exceeded what would be considered personal use, raising red flags that ultimately led to the investigation.<\/p>\n
The case was the result of a joint effort between the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and state police, with support from a statewide investigating grand jury.<\/p>\n
Officials say Antwi\u2019s actions not only impacted individual victims but also defrauded the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, which oversees alcohol sales in the state.<\/p>\n
