You may recall seeing Mariah Carey\u2019s NYC penthouse on an episode of MTV Cribs\u2014or, perhaps in a 2001 Architectural Digest spread<\/a>. And now, the \u201cWe Belong Together\u201d singer\u2019s pad has landed on the market<\/a> for $27 million. The songstress bought two units spanning three floors at the top of Tribeca\u2019s Franklin Tower in 1999, transforming them into a 12,700-square-foot single residence with eight bedrooms and seven-and-a-half baths.<\/p>\n Before moving in, Carey hired designer Mario Buatta to create a home fit for a diva, and he delivered. Silver-leaf doors, bronze-inlaid limestone flooring, lacquered walls, and butterflies galore. \u201cWe put them wherever we could,\u201d Buatta explained to AD in 2001. \u201cThere are butterfly handles on the cabinets in the bedroom, and butterflies are woven into the bed hangings. They\u2019re even on the soap in the bath and on the tiles in the kitchen. There are so many butterflies in this apartment, you don\u2019t even notice them. But Mariah does.\u201d<\/p>\n Some of the home\u2019s highlights include the 38-foot-long primary bathroom, where Carey famously took a dip during her Cribs episode; a windowed great room where Carey kept Marilyn Monroe\u2019s white baby grand piano, which she bought in an auction<\/a> in 1999; a rooftop sunroom and wet bar spilling out onto a furnished terrace with sprawling city views; two kitchens; and an underwater-themed media room.<\/p>\n See the video.<\/p>\n Carey\u2019s ex, Nick Cannon, once said<\/a> that it cost the five-time Grammy-winner \u201c$150,000 [or] $200,000 just to walk out of the house,\u201d but she may be trying to cut back a bit with this listing. According to the New York Post<\/a>, the property carries about $18.6 million in outstanding loans and comes with monthly HOA dues of $17,000. Carey previously offered the triplex for rent, listing it last year at $32,500 a month.<\/p>\n \u201cMariah loves luxury,\u201d as Buatta told AD. \u201cShe exudes glamour\u2014and sex appeal, too.
