\n\tGodzilla stomped its way to Las Vegas for CinemaCon<\/a>, the annual convention for movie theater owners that\u2019s underway at Caesars Palace. The first trailer for Toho\u2019s upcoming sequel \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero<\/a>\u201d was shown to attendees in the room.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMinus Zero\u201d is a direct sequel to the 2023 Japanese film \u201cGodzilla Minus One,\u201d which was a surprise hit internationally and took home the Oscar for best visual effects. CinemaCon viewers saw a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel that showed off the elaborate sets and props created for the film, like bomber jets, destroyed cities and a mini Godzilla model. The trailer picks up two years after \u201cMinus One\u201d and continues the story of the survivors\u2019 from the kaiju\u2019s last attack, director Takashi Yamazaki revealed. In the closing moments, Godzilla stomps his way to the Statue of Liberty, setting his sights on New York City.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMinus One\u201d marked the 37th film in the \u201cGodzilla\u201d franchise and the 33rd produced by Toho, the Japanese entertainment company who created the giant, lizard-like kaiju creature bent on destruction. Writer and director Yamazaki returns for \u201cMinus Zero,\u201d which has a larger budget than the already economical $15 million of \u201cGodzilla Minus One.\u201d The first movie went on to earn $116 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Japanese \u201cGodzilla\u201d film of all time and country\u2019s third biggest release in 2023. \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero\u201d was also filmed for Imax, the first for a Japanese film.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe cast included Ryunosuke Kamiki, as a former kamikaze pilot who survives and must later defeat Godzilla, Minami Hamabe, Minami Hamabe, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka and more. At the 2023 Academy Awards, \u201cMinus One\u201d became the first non-English language film to win best visual effects, beating \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,\u201d \u201cThe Creator,\u201d \u201cNapoleon\u201d and \u201cMission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMinus Zero\u201d will release in the United States on Nov. 6 and in Japan on Nov. 3, but Hollywood is also getting in on the Godzilla action with next year\u2019s, \u201cGodzilla X Kong: Supernova.\u201d It\u2019s the the sixth film in Legendary and Warner Bros.
