(WIBW) &#8211; Two people were rescued from a structure fire in Manhattan early Tuesday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the Manhattan Fire Department, crews were dispatched to 509 Pierre Street around 6:13 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Upon arrival, crews found a two-story residential building with smoke and flames coming from the second floor and two people on the porch roof. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials say a passerby put up a ladder, climbed onto the porch roof and helped an occupant out of a second-floor window and onto the porch roof. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Two dogs and a cat perished in the fire, which caused an estimated $75,000 in damage to the...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/EF26BJ7QO5EHNFGE76GMN4NZTU.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" \/>Two dogs and a cat perished in the fire, which caused an estimated $75,000 in damage to the structure.(Manhattan Fire Department | Manhattan Fire Department)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The driver of Quint 2, a fire truck, was able to raise the truck\u2019s ladder, allowing the two to come down. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Firefighters entered the building and conducted a search for another occupant reportedly trapped inside. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The person was found unconscious on the second floor. Firefighters quickly removed the person from the building. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Both occupants of the second floor were transported by Riley County EMS. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials say there were four occupants total in the building, two escaping the first-floor apartment before the fire department\u2019s arrival. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Two dogs and a cat perished in the fire, which caused an estimated $75,000 in damage to the...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/6BTPYXCKOFETFPQRQLPDBMXSEE.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" \/>Two dogs and a cat perished in the fire, which caused an estimated $75,000 in damage to the structure.(Manhattan Fire Department | Manhattan Fire Department)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The passerby was uninjured in the incident. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">One dog was transported by Riley County Animal Control to Kansas State Vet Med, while two dogs and a cat perished in the fire. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials say the fire was contained within 15 minutes. A total of 18 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus, with the last units clearing at around 8:00 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The building was a two-story residential structure with two apartments. The total loss is estimated at $50,000 to the contents within the building and $75,000 to the structure. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The cause of the fire is under investigation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Kansas State Fire Marshal\u2019s Office and Riley County Police Department are assisting Manhattan Fire Investigators with the investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WIBW.
