New York, N.Y. – The Broadway Education Alliance and Disney Theatrical Group announce\u00a0the\u00a016th\u00a0Annual\u00a0Roger Rees Awards\u00a0Showcase\u00a0celebrating\u00a0Excellence in Student Performance.\u00a0\u00a0The Roger Rees Awards serves as Greater New York City\u2019s high school musical theater awards program, shining a spotlight on the next generation of theater creators\u00a0and recognizing the importance of theatre arts education.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The event will\u00a0showcase\u00a0the talents of 50 high school artists from schools\u00a0located\u00a0throughout the Greater New York region who have been nominated for Outstanding Performer.\u00a0\u00a0Cheer on\u00a0students and educators\u00a0being honored\u00a0for their dedication to the arts while enjoying\u00a0group musical numbers\u00a0by the nominees, accompanied by the\u00a0New York City Center Youth Orchestra, a new 18-member group of student musicians assembled and directed by Rick Hip-Flores, with 12 finalists selected to perform solos.\u00a0<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

The evening will culminate with the announcement of the Outstanding Performer Award winners,\u00a0two students selected by a panel of Broadway\u00a0industry professionals, who will\u00a0represent\u00a0New York at The Broadway League Foundation\u2019s\u00a0National High School Musical Theatre Awards<\/a>\u00a0aka The Jimmy Awards\u00ae in June at the Minskoff Theatre.\u00a0\u00a0Students across various categories will\u00a0also\u00a0be recognized for their commitment to the arts both on and off the stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This annual event will be hosted by\u00a0Andrew Keenan-Bolger, actor, director,\u00a0filmmaker\u00a0and author of\u00a0the\u00a0recently released\u00a0Young Adult novel \u201cLimelight\u201d.\u00a0Keenan-Bolger is best known for originating the roles\u00a0of\u00a0Crutchie\u00a0in\u202fNewsies<\/a>\u202fand Jesse Tuck in\u202fTuck Everlasting<\/a>\u202fon Broadway.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
