Harvey Weinstein is back in court<\/a> this week in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

The disgraced Hollywood producer, whose sexual assault allegations sprouted the #MeToo movement, is up for a retrial.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, jury selection began over the alleged rape case of hairstylist Jessica Mann in 2013. This is the third time this allegation will be weighed by a jury.<\/p>\n

Here is what to know about the retrial.<\/p>\n

Why is Harvey Weinstein going to trial again?<\/p>\n

In the original trial of his sex crimes, Mann claimed that Weinstein had raped her in a New York hotel room in 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In June, a mistrial was declared on the remaining third\u2011degree rape charge after a member of the jury refused to continue deliberations.<\/p>\n

Weinstein has denied ever having nonconsensual sex with anyone.<\/p>\n

Ellen DeGeneres<\/a> found herself in hot water earlier this year, after BuzzFeed<\/a>\u00a0reported that a group of employees said that\u00a0they faced racism, fear and intimidation while working on her popular daytime talk show. Three of the show’s producers were also accused of sexual misconduct by former\u00a0employees and were later fired following a Warner Bros. investigation.<\/p>\n

The host of the popular, long-running “Ellen DeGeneres Show” has since apologized to her employees, and during her show’s season premiere on Sept. 21, DeGeneres<\/a>\u00a0took some time to address the scandal with viewers. “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened,” she said. “I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected. I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.”<\/p>\n

Harvey Weinstein trial this week<\/p>\n

Jury selection began on Tuesday, April 14, as the trial is expected to continue for the next few weeks.<\/p>\n

More than 80 people have already requested to be excused from the case, according to the Associated Press<\/a>, with no jurors picked on the first day of proceedings. Jury selection is expected to continue this week.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors revealed new evidence in the case, too. \u00a0Manhattan’s Assistant District Attorney, Candace White, said that in 2020, during Weinstein’s sex-crimes trial in New York, a court officer heard him say: \u201cIf you had seen these girls, you would have done the exact same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weinstein has been in jail at Rikers Island, which he has referred to as “hell.”<\/p>\n
