{"id":198255,"date":"2026-04-15T16:56:39","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T16:56:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/198255\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T16:56:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T16:56:39","slug":"nypd-cops-on-modified-duty-for-wild-caught-on-video-brooklyn-liquor-store-clash-with-suspect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/198255\/","title":{"rendered":"NYPD cops on modified duty for wild caught-on-video Brooklyn liquor store clash with suspect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A pair of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/04\/01\/homicides-down-30-percent-nyc-first-3-months-2026-shootings-down\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NYPD<\/a> cops were placed on modified duty Wednesday for repeatedly punching a suspect refusing to be handcuffed in a wild caught-on-camera clash in a Brooklyn liquor store that Mayor Mamdani is calling \u201cunacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The clash, in which the cops are recorded crashing into a display of wine bottles while punching the man in the face and body as he resists arrest, is under review by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau, officials said<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe violence used by NYPD officers in this video is extremely disturbing and unacceptable,\u201d Mayor Mamdani said on social media. \u201cOfficers should never treat a person this way. The NYPD is conducting a full investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pair of Brooklyn North narcotics detectives involved in the clash thought the man matched the description of someone who had just made a drug purchase, a police source said.<\/p>\n<p>He was wearing similar clothes as the suspect \u2014 a white T-shirt, shorts and light green hat \u2014 but had no drugs on him when he was arrested, the source said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is upsetting to view,\u201d NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said of the video. \u201cWe\u2019ll have more to say about it as that investigation unfolds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand the community interest in it,\u201d she added. \u201cI believe that the two officers have been or are being modified at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When cops confronted the suspect, he refused to be taken into custody, sparking the clash.<\/p>\n<p>Once he was finally arrested, he was not charged with drug possession but was given a desk appearance ticket for resisting arrest and obstruction of government administration, police sources said.<\/p>\n<p>A seven-minute video first posted online by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXIXvxskYgT\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sinistratm<\/a> shows the two plain-clothes cops struggling to get the man\u2019s hands behind his back in the back of the store near a set of glass-doored refrigerators.<\/p>\n<p>The cops are seen striking the man six times. They then shove his head first into a refrigerator door before all three fall into a display of wine bottles, sending the bottles shattering to the floor, the video shows.<\/p>\n<p>One of the cops grabs the man by the foot and drags him toward the store\u2019s front door as the pair try to get him on his stomach so they can handcuff him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoll over! Stop resisting!\u201d one cop screams repeatedly in the video. \u201cPut your hands behind your back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The man cut his leg on the broken glass during the fight and was bleeding heavily as cops continued to try to get his hands behind his back, the video shows.<\/p>\n<p>One cop is seen stomping the floor near the man\u2019s head but its not clear if he made contact with the suspect. The same officer then stands on the back of the suspect\u2019s knee to immobilize him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive me your hand!\u201d another cop screams. \u201cStay there! You\u2019re covered in blood!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The man refused to do so, prompting witnesses on the other side of the glass doors watching the arrest to demand he comply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey big dog! Give him your hands or your going to bleed out!\u201d one witness is heard yelling in a second cellphone video of the arrest.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect claimed he was innocent and that he was a local security guard. At times during the arrest, he\u2019s screaming to someone recording, telling them to reach out to his mother and tell her what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got a security license in my pocket!\u201d he screamed. \u201cI\u2019m coming to work.
