At the center of it all is Michael Minelli, the creator and host who\u2019s redefining what it means to \u201cmake it\u201d in music\u2013 one sidewalk performance at a time.<\/p>\n

Minelli describes Step to the Mike as a street-level version of shows like American Idol, a platform for discovering talent in real time, right on the sidewalks of New York City.<\/p>\n

\u201cFallen Media is the world\u2019s first short-form content studio,\u201d said Rowan Winch, co-founder of the company. \u201cIn the same way a TV studio operates, we do the same, but we live on social media, in bite-sized, one- to two-minute pieces of content.\u201d<\/p>\n

The partnership came after Minelli had already begun experimenting with the concept on his own. Rather than reshape it, Fallen Media leaned into what made it work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw what Michael was doing and loved it,\u201d Winch said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to change it, we just wanted to take it to the next level.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Since then, Step to the Mike has quickly become the studio\u2019s highest-performing series, drawing millions of views across platforms and turning street performances into viral moments.<\/p>\n

For Winch, New York City isn\u2019t just a backdrop. It\u2019s essential to the show\u2019s DNA.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t be able to do this in any other city in the world,\u201d he said. \u201cThe energy here is unmatched, and that balance makes it perfect for content.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had so many artists hit me up after we post a video, and they\u2019re like, \u2018Yo, that was my biggest moment online ever.\u2019\u201d\n<\/p>\n

For him, that\u2019s the real reward. Not just building his own platform, but helping others find theirs.\n<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a mindset shaped by his own journey. Raised in a family of performers\u2013 ballroom dancer parents, a singer grandfather, Minelli grew up surrounded by music. But talent alone wasn\u2019t enough. Without access to formal training, he taught himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was broke, so I didn\u2019t have money for vocal lessons, so YouTube and the radio were my vocal coaches,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n

That DIY spirit still defines Step to the Mike. Before it became a viral series, it was just Minelli, a few iPhones, and an idea.

\u201cI bought four iPhones, and I came in the street and started shooting a video, and people thought I was crazy,\u201d he said. \u201cBut nobody could tell me no.\u201d<\/p>\n

That same energy now fuels the artists who step into his frame. Many of them undiscovered, all of them taking a risk.\n<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s something about New York City that makes it all click.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s truly no place like New York City,\u201d Minelli said. \u201cIt\u2019s honest, real, and raw. It\u2019s the mecca of personality and a place where anyone has the opportunity to shine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see Step to the Mike becoming the biggest platform for music discovery and celebration,\u201d Minelli said. \u201cIt started in New York City, but it can go anywhere. There\u2019s talent all over the world, and I want to be the one to showcase it.\u201d<\/p>\n
