{"id":198401,"date":"2026-04-15T19:04:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T19:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/198401\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T19:04:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T19:04:18","slug":"nyc-expected-to-shatter-85-year-old-record-with-steamy-spring-heat-forecasters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/198401\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC expected to shatter 85-year-old record with steamy spring heat: forecasters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The heat is on \u2014 but not for long!<\/p>\n<p>The Big Apple is expected to shatter a nearly 85-year-old heat record Wednesday with <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/14\/us-news\/big-apple-poised-to-break-nearly-80-year-record-with-summer-like-temps-on-wednesday-but-it-wont-last-long\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sunny, summer-like temperatures<\/a> fit for a day at the beach, meteorologists said.<\/p>\n<p>The mercury is forecast to hit a\u00a0high of 90 degrees in the mid-afternoon \u2014  the hottest April 15 on record in the city since 1941, when it reached 87 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBreaking the record is likely,\u201d AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Matt Benz said Wednesday morning. \u201cIt would be a nice day to go to the beach\u00a0\u2014 but not to jump into the water because it\u2019s still very cold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers bask in summer-like temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday is also expected to be blissfully warm with a high of 89 degrees \u2014 and the steamy spring heat will stick around until Friday, which will reach a high of 80, according to\u00a0forecasters.<\/p>\n<p>But the dreamy dose of summer is will likely plunge back into the 50s and 60s over the weekend and into Monday, Benz said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis weekend, it\u2019s back to a more April-like reality,\u201d he said.\u201cIt will feel much cooler.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers flocked outside Wednesday to bask in the warm rays after shivering through a historically brutal winter and a recent cold snap.<\/p>\n<p>High temperatures come after a brutal winter in New York City. Paul Martinka for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>The unseasonably high temps are fueled by <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/14\/us-news\/severe-weather-threatens-millions-from-midwest-to-new-york-this-week\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stormy weather across the western US<\/a>, which has caused pressure to keep cold air from cooling parts of eastern US.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a large ridge of high pressure,\u201d Benz said.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s favorable for us in terms of warmth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Areas just north of New York City, such as Westchester County,\u00a0 may also be struck by stormy weather on Wednesday evening with strong winds and downpours, Benz said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>High temps are forecast to be gone by the weekend. Paul Martinka for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Monday and Tuesday are forecast to fall into the 50s and the rest of\u00a0the month will largely be back to \u201caverage\u201d April temperatures in the 60s, Benz said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do have a cold shot\u00a0on Monday and Tuesday,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cThat will be a shock to the system after the heat.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The heat is on \u2014 but not for long!
