According to DA Gonzalez, the investigation, which took a deep dive into shootings that occurred as far back as summer 2023, was dubbed Operation Crossfire due to locals being struck by stray bullets fired by crew members at each other.<\/p>\n

The probe looked at 36 shootings that resulted in 11 victims, including one who died as a result of his injuries. One innocent bystander was struck while taking out the trash.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cOn 12 occasions, bullets went through doors or windows where people were residing in their apartments, with their families, with their children, and bullets enter their home. Let me say that again, 12 times, bullets entered into someone\u2019s home,\u201d Gonzalez said. \u201cSometimes they were on the fourth floor. The sixth floor, didn\u2019t matter. They were not safe from this violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said the Wooo gang is based out of the Van Dyke Houses, Langston Hughes Houses, Noble Drew Ali Plaza, and Brownsville Houses, while the Choo crew operates out of Tilden Houses, Howard Houses, Marcus Garvey Village, Newport Gardens, and Riverdale Towers.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez showed journalists surveillance footage depicting some of these shootings, including a slaying. In one incident, on June 29, 2025,<\/a> two gunmen fired at 34-year-old Tahriq Thompson, leaving his body lifeless on the ground.<\/p>\n

In another April 22 shooting, Ramos, one of those arrested, allegedly fired shots near a Van Dyke Houses playground where young children were playing, sending them fleeing for their lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir generational rivalry over territory among various public housing developments across Brownsville has terrorized that neighborhood for years. The beef between the groups ran so deep that on June 12, 2024, there was a vicious gang assault just outside of the DA\u2019s headquarters.<\/p>\n

Authorities say CHOO members Marvellous Ehigiator, Nasir Wade, and Tristan McFarlane chased a 17-year-old alleged WOOO rival outside of 1 Metrotech Center. Video shows Wade catching his victim, throwing him to the ground before all three of them kicked him about across his body and head.<\/p>\n

Wade jumped with his full body and stomped on the victim\u2019s head. The victim suffered a brain bruise, traumatic brain injury and right lower extremity weakness, and had to undergo extensive rehab to relearn how to use his right leg.<\/p>\n

Of the 36 indicted, 35 were arraigned in court on Tuesday. One remains at large.
