For one evening only, more than 20 museums will open their doors for free, while the street itself turns into a festival packed with live performances, pop-ups and hands-on activities.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve never been, the premise is simple but kind of unbeatable: world-class museums, no admission fees and a car-free Fifth Avenue filled with music, dancing and crowds.\u00a0Heavy hitters like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/museums\/the-metropolitan-museum-of-art\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Met<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/museums\/guggenheim-new-york\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Guggenheim<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/things-to-do\/cooper-hewitt-smithsonian-design-museum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/museums\/museum-of-the-city-of-new-york\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Museum of the City of New York<\/a> will all be open during the event, offering access to current exhibitions alongside special programming.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"5551c706-43c2-41d3-fe67-9d0be36c7a02\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776281529_736_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"museum mile festival\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Photograph: Courtesy of the Museum Mile Festival\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106394758\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: Courtesy of the Museum Mile Festival&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/museums\/the-jewish-museum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jewish Museum<\/a>, for example, is planning live outdoor performances alongside family-friendly art activities, while Cooper Hewitt is turning its garden into a dance floor with DJs and a hot-pink sound system.
