CBS has greenlit a new “NCIS” spinoff set in New York City starring LL Cool J and Scott Caan, which will premiere this fall.

“NCIS: New York” marks a return to the franchise for LL Cool J. He reprises the role of Sam Hanna after starring in all 14 seasons of “NCIS: Los Angeles” from 2009 to 2023, with additional appearances in the flagship “NCIS” series as well as “NCIS: Hawai’i.” He will appear in two upcoming episodes of “NCIS” on April 21 and April 28.

For Caan, the new role extends a long career at CBS, as he previously played Danny “Danno” Williams in “Hawaii Five-0” for all ten seasons from 2010 to 2020 — even appearing in an “NCIS: Los Angeles” episode during a crossover between the two series. In “NCIS: New York,” however, he will play a new character.

The pilot for “NCIS: New York” was written by Scott Gemmill, who wrote on all 14 seasons of “NCIS: Los Angeles” and served as showrunner for seven seasons; he now serves as writer and creator of “The Pitt on HBO Max. Byron Balasco, who was a writer-producer on CBS’ “Without a Trace” and created the Audience Network series “Kingdom,” will serve as showrunner on “NCIS: New York.”

News of “NCIS: New York” came from a press briefing in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where CBS also announced its full fall schedule as well as renewals for “Beyond the Gates” and “Harlan Coben’s Final Twist” and the development of “Flint,” a cop drama starring Matt LeBlanc.

“LL is like a member of our family at CBS, and he’s done pop-ins at ‘NCIS’ the last two years, and it’s been really successful,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said at the event. “And the opportunity for Sam Hanna — who is originally from New York but lived in LA for ‘NCIS: LA’ — to send him back home felt like a really ripe creative space to play in. ”

“NCIS” premiered on CBS in 2003 and will debut its 24th season this fall. Besides “NCIS: New York,” there are two current spinoffs in the franchise: CBS’ fall 2026 lineup features Season 3 of “NCIS: Origins” and Season 4 of “NCIS: Sydney.”

Past spinoffs include “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” which was canceled by Paramount+ last fall after one season. That sparked a loud reaction from fans, who generated a “save our show” campaign in an attempt to get the show revived, perhaps on CBS. Asked if CBS considered bringing “Tony & Ziva” to the network, Reisenbach said no: “We really wanted to bring the Sam Hanna character back,” she said of opting to go the LL Cool J direction instead.

[6
40649,79069,79070,9,11,10,79071,79072
post-198797","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york","tag-ll-cool-j","tag-ncis","tag-ncis-new-york","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-headlines","tag-new-york-news","tag-scott-caan","tag-upfronts
["GET
