The reasoning behind this, as explained by New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, is that FIFA, which runs the World Cup, is not footing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/us-lawmaker-demands-fifa-pay-011937770.html?ref=hellgatenyc.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">any of the expenses related to public transportation<\/a>\u2014the extra service NJ Transit is running, the extra security, etc.\u2014while also reeling in a ton of the revenue from the World Cup, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7070786\/2026\/02\/26\/fifa-world-cup-parking-prices-ada-disabled-spots\/?ref=hellgatenyc.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">including parking fees at the stadium<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the key things I wanted to make sure is that we are not going to be paying for moving the people who are viewing the World Cup on the back of New Jersey taxpayers and New Jersey commuters. And so we worked together closely to make sure that that cost will not be borne by New Jerseyans,&#8221; Sherrill <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7193375\/2026\/04\/14\/metlife-stadium-world-cup-train-tickets\/?ref=hellgatenyc.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said at a press conference earlier this week<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Sounds like a <a href=\"https:\/\/newjerseymonitor.com\/2026\/04\/01\/the-world-cup-doesnt-need-any-more-of-njs-tax-dollars\/?ref=hellgatenyc.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bad deal for New Jersey<\/a>! It also sounds like a terrible deal for people who want to watch World Cup games in New Jersey, where even the cheap seats are selling for over $1,000 on the resale market. (And if you won the FIFA ticket lottery, congrats!
