STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A Staten Island coalition that once united dozens of women\u2019s organizations is being revitalized after several years of inactivity following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
The Sisterhood of Women\u2019s Organizations is seeking to reconnect community leaders across the borough as it returns to its mission of uniting, empowering and advocating for Staten Island women and families.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Sisterhood has always been a powerful voice when we come together,\u201d said organizer Rosemarie Dressler. \u201cWe\u2019re calling on all Staten Island women\u2019s organizations \u2014 past members and new groups alike \u2014 to join us as we prepare for the next chapter of collective action.\u201d<\/p>\n
The coalition was originally formed in 2010 under the leadership of the Staten Island chapter of New York State Women. It brought together women\u2019s groups from across the borough to address issues of shared concern.<\/p>\n
During its active years, member organizations collaborated on initiatives addressing domestic violence, women\u2019s health, self-esteem, substance abuse prevention and human trafficking awareness.<\/p>\n
Now facing new community challenges, the Sisterhood plans to rebuild through social media outreach and local press engagement. The organization aims to identify participating organizations and begin the new year with what it describes as a united voice, renewed collaboration and a shared vision for progress.<\/p>\n
