Loved ones are speaking out after 18-year-old Steven Lantigua was fatally shot in the chest in East New York last week.<\/p>\n
The shooting happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. on April 10 on Drew Street off Linden Boulevard. <\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s family spoke exclusively with News 12 on Thursday, but they asked not to be identified out of fear of retaliation from the gunman \u2013 who is still on the run. <\/p>\n
\u201c[Lantigua] was young, full of life, ready to bloom,\u201d said one family member. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s something really painful for everybody,\u201d said another loved one. \u201cHe has a lot of people who love him and we want justice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Family members said the victim worked for Uber Eats, and they believed that he may have been making a delivery at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n
The NYPD was not able to confirm that on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Last week, two young witnesses told News 12 that they saw the victim fall to the ground and the gunman run off. They then called 911. <\/p>\n
\u201cI do appreciate that they did say something and they at least called,\u201d said a victim\u2019s family member. \u201cI just want to reach out and tell them thank you.\u201d <\/p>\n
It is still unclear what led to the deadly shooting. <\/p>\n
The family said they\u2019re raising money for Lantigua\u2019s funeral. They also called for the gunman to turn himself in. <\/p>\n
“Nobody has the right to take no one\u2019s life,\u201d said a loved one. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter. [The gunman] didn\u2019t have the right to do that.\u201d <\/p>\n
