At its 28th annual Sunday Supper, held at iconic restaurant Daniel, more than $1.3 million was raised to deliver 130,000 meals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Star chefs included Daniel Boulud, Alain Ducasse and Amaury Bouhours (of Le Meurice Alain Ducasse in Paris), Rafa Costa e Silva (Lasai, Rio De Janeiro) and Michael Cimarusti (Providence, Los Angeles). Cocktail canapes were prepared by chefs Laurent Kalkotour (Minetta Tavern, New York), Didier Elena (Hogsalt Hospitality, Chicago), Lucile Plaza (Benoit, New York) and Laetitia Rouabah (La Vontaine, Las Vegas). Guests included Florence Fabricant and Christian Siriano.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrench cuisine is not just about the cooking. It is about the sharing,\u201d Ducasse told the hungry crowd. \u201cYou can\u2019t be a good chef if you aren\u2019t generous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the live auction included a trip to Paris with round-trip airfare for two, a stay at Le Meurice and dinner at Le Meurice Alain Ducasse, which raised $90,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne in five older New Yorkers now live in poverty, and the need for Citymeals is only becoming more urgent,\u201d said Beth Shapiro, CEO of Citymeals on Wheels. \u201cWe now serve double the number of centenarians as we did a decade ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citymeals doesn\u2019t just offer food, Shapiro said; it also provides older New Yorkers with connection.<\/p>\n<p>Boulud added: \u201cI\u2019m grateful to our chef friends, who joined me in the kitchen to support Citymeals. Meeting a survivor, hearing their story, is a privilege we can\u2019t take for granted, and every listener becomes a partner in the chain of remembrance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spiegel spoke about fleeing to Italy after her father was seized and taken to a concentration camp.
