Even some of the most highly respected and beloved people make mistakes. That includes Queen Elizabeth<\/a>, who may have taken one massive regret to her grave.<\/p>\n

For all the good that many believe she did, there was one choice near the end of her life which has been heavily scrutinized. According to author Robert Hardman, that decision \u201cwill go down as a mistake.\u201d Robert is out promoting his book, Elizabeth II. In Private. In Public. The Inside Story, which comes out next month.<\/p>\n

Ex-Prince Andrew was often described as the late monarch\u2019s favorite son<\/p>\n

Few bonds in the world may be stronger than that between a mother and son. That was evident to many with Elizabeth and the former Prince Andrew<\/a>. Often labeled as her favorite son, she always appeared to be nurturing and affectionate towards him. Her love for him was so strong that, according to reports, that she let him get away with everything.<\/p>\n

Protecting her family appeared to always be front and centre for Elizabeth, particularly for Andrew. In March 2022, she was there for him in his hour of need, helping to fund his civil lawsuit settlement with Virginia Giuffre<\/a> worth an estimated $16 million.<\/p>\n

Virginia accused Andrew of sexual abuse while she was a minor and claimed that she\u2019d been trafficked to him by the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>. Palace sources tell People that the Queen\u2019s decision to help her son get out of that mess was one she grappled with deeply. Virginia allegedly died by suicide last year.<\/p>\n

Reports suggest that the Queen had to protect Andrew from scrutiny for a long time. She is being accused of enabling Andrew\u2019s criminal activity<\/a>. Despite the things she did for Andrew, Robert insists that \u201cHer greatness remains.\u201d He says the public tends to view things in the present tense, which may be why Elizabeth, in death, is facing some backlash. Her other son, King Charles<\/a>, removed his royal titles last year. Robert\u2019s upcoming novel will be released on May 19.<\/p>\n
