X\/Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani<\/p>\n<p>The video which was posted to Mamdani\u2019s official social media accounts have gone viral, accumulating tens of millions of views online.<\/p>\n<p>Sara Eisen, a co-anchor on \u201cSquawk on the Street\u201d and \u201cMoney Movers,\u201d warned the move risks backfiring, noting Griffin \u201cemploys thousands of people in NYC\u201d and is \u201cinvesting billions more and creating thousands more jobs\u201d \u2014 adding that \u201cmaking him feel unwelcome and demonizing him seems risky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKen Griffin employs thousands of people in NYC and is planning to build the tallest office tower on Park Ave., investing billions more and creating thousands more jobs,\u201d Eisen wrote on X on Thursday, adding that \u201c[f]or that reason, he\u2019s also here in NYC a lot, @NYCMayor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeantime Miami is welcoming him and his firm, with the massive jobs, investment and tax revenue he\u2019s bringing,\u201d Eisen wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The Post has sought comment from Mamdani and Griffin. <\/p>\n<p>Eisen said Griffin<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/billionaire-ken-griffin-says-citadels-chicago-exodus-not-hard-crime-taxes-drove-workers-away\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> relocated the headquarters of his hedge fund<\/a> from Chicago to Miami \u201cbecause of bad policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNBC anchor Sara Eisen blasted Zohran Mamdani\u2019s push to tax luxury second homes, warning the move could drive away major investors. Kathy Hochul, would impose an annual levy on luxury homes worth more than $5 million owned by non-full-time residents, targeting ultra-wealthy property owners whose units often sit empty.<\/p>\n<p>When reached by The Post, Eisen expanded on her X post, warning that while \u201cthere\u2019s no place like NYC\u201d where businesses \u201chave strong and growing footholds here,\u201d Mamdani and other left-leaning politicos \u201cshouldn\u2019t take that for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe general attitude I hear from business leaders is \u2018We can probably get through four years of anti-business policies, but the danger is the longer-term trend\u2019,\u201d Eisen, the veteran business journalist, told The Post on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, a major New York real estate owner and Citadel founder, has warned about the risks of high taxes and crime in major cities. Vernon Yuen\/Nexpher via ZUMA Press Wire \/ Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBad policies have consequences, as we\u2019ve seen a migration of business out of California and into Florida, for instance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eisen added that while New York \u201cwill always be special\u2026it may not be as vibrant of a place for new offices and expansion in the future if we go down this path of demonizing them and<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/14\/us-news\/hochul-proposes-taxes-on-second-homes-in-nyc-worth-5m-plus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> disincentivizing them to be here.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Griffin has deep ties to New York\u2019s high-end real estate and business world, headlined by his<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/10\/10\/ken-griffin-buys-two-more-units-in-220-central-park-south\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> record-setting $238 million penthouse<\/a> at 220 Central Park South.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the 2019 purchase,<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/01\/23\/most-expensive-home-in-us-history-sells-for-238m-by-central-park\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> it was the largest sum ever paid<\/a> for a residence in the United States. There have been several homes that have listed for higher prices, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/news\/unique-homes\/most-expensive-homes-sold-us-record-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">there are no verified closings as of Friday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Griffin has since expanded his footprint with tens of millions more in purchases at the elite 740 Park Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>He is also backing the redevelopment of 350 Park Avenue, a roughly 62-story, nearly 2 million-square-foot supertall expected to cost about $4.5 billion, with Citadel and Citadel Securities set to anchor the tower as his future Manhattan headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin has long tied his business decisions to concerns about crime and the broader climate in major Northern cities, warning in 2021 that Chicago was \u201cbecoming ever more difficult to have this as our global headquarters, a city which has so much violence\u201d and likening conditions to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2021\/10\/05\/ken_griffin_chicago_is_like_afghanistan_on_a_good_day.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> \u201clike Afghanistan on a good day and that\u2019s a problem.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ken Griffin\u2019s record-setting $238 million penthouse at 220 Central Park South \u2014 one of the most expensive homes ever sold in the US \u2014 has become a flashpoint in the debate over taxing luxury properties.
