NEW YORK\u2014\u202fToday, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and New York City Public Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels announced seven new early childhood education centers will open this fall, adding about 240 new 3-K seats across the city. The sites, previously vacant, are part of the first phase of the 3-K expansion announced last month for the 2026\u201327 school year.<\/p>\n
The new centers will meet community demand, make full use of existing space and expand access to early childhood education closer to where families live. \u202f<\/p>\n
The\u202fCity\u202falso announced an\u202fexpansion of\u202fcapacity among existing contracted\u202fproviders, adding seats across current programs. Additional\u202fcenter-based seats\u202fwill be announced following the evaluation of the Request for Information (RFI) issued earlier this year,\u202falong with planned increases\u202fin\u202ffamily\u202fchild care\u202fnetwork capacity.\u202f<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, we are opening doors that should never have been closed to our families \u2014 safe, nurturing spaces where their children can learn and grow, in their own communities,\u201d said\u202fMayor Mamdani.\u202f\u201cFor too long, truly accessible\u202fchild care\u202fwas just out of reach. By bringing these sites online, we\u2019re making clear that no amount of red tape\u202fwill get in the way of delivering\u202fthe free,\u202funiversal\u202fchild care\u202fNew Yorkers deserve.\u201d\u202f<\/p>\n

Site selections were based on community demand, seat availability, site readiness and the ability to open for the upcoming school year.<\/p>\n
New programs will be listed on\u202fMySchools<\/a>. Families who have already applied\u202fwill receive email instructions on how to update\u202ftheir applications. Families who missed the deadline can still join\u202fprogram\u202fwaitlists.\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n Today\u2019s announcement builds on the Mamdani Administration\u2019s commitment to delivering universal\u202fchild care\u202fto New York City\u202ffamilies<\/a>, supported by the state in partnership with Governor Kathy Hochul.
