McNair <\/a><\/p>\n April 17, 2026<\/p>\n “Who the hell wrote that, please?”<\/p>\n While celebrating tax breaks for small businesses as part of his \u201cBig Beautiful Bill Act,\u201d President Donald Trump admitted not knowing what a \u201ccorner store\u201d is.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking at a roundtable in Las Vegas during Tax Week, Trump promoted his no tax on tips policy, which pushes larger tax refunds<\/a> for tipped workers and small businesses. But while reading some of the talking points given to him, he began questioning some things. <\/p>\n \u201cThe Great Big Beautiful Bill also slashed taxes on millions of American small businesses, including restaurants, dry cleaners, corner stores\u2026.what is a corner store?\u201d the president asked the crowd. \u201cI\u2019ve never heard that term. I know what a corner store is, but I\u2019ve never heard it described\u2026 A corner store. Who the hell wrote that, please?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Social media users in the comment section were taken aback by Trump not being familiar<\/a> with the term, which describes a small grocery store, as he was born and raised in Queens, New York, where a corner store is seen at almost the end or beginning of every street. <\/p>\n \u201cYou cannot be from New York and not know that. That was deliberate,\u201d @transvilla420 wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n @ch0ngkenny wondered how Trump \u201chas all these black friends and doesn\u2019t know what a corner store is?\u201d The sentiment was echoed by newscaster Don Lemon in an Instagram post.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWait til he hears the word bodega,\u201d @suegreene22 wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t the first time Trump has spoken out about how other Americans refer to groceries. In April 2025, during a \u201cLiberation Day\u201d speech, he claimed the term \u201cgroceries\u201d was old-fashioned, according to People, and provided his own<\/a> definition. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s such an old-fashioned term but a beautiful term: groceries,\u201d he said at the time.\u00a0\u201cIt sort of says a bag with different things in it.\u201d<\/p>\n Not knowing what a corner store is, is not a good look for Trump as Americans are struggling to keep cabinets full due to the the rising costs<\/a>.
