High-end fashions from Chanel, Herm\u00e8s, Louis Vuitton and many more designers fill the racks and shelves at The Closet New York in Syosset.<\/p>\n
Opening in mid-April, the shop features upscale “preloved” resale and consignment pieces \u2014 clothing, bags and shoes \u2014 curated and authenticated by married business partners Leah and Spencer Weinstein, who\u2019ve run the venture online since 2019.<\/p>\n
“We work with clients who want to consign their items from their closets,” says Leah, 27. “The boutique will be just women\u2019s pieces, but we\u2019ll still sell men\u2019s items online.”<\/p>\n
The couple met at Lynn University in Florida. Leah, who\u2019s from Ohio, previously handled social media for a jewelry company in New York City. Spencer, 29, ran a Mister Softee ice cream truck in his hometown of Syosset.<\/p>\n
The duo\u2019s aim is to make The Closet New York a destination for curated high-end resale. “We source merchandise online wholesalers worldwide and clients across New York,” Spencer says. “The fashion on Long Island is so good.”<\/p>\n
Quiet luxury brands that emphasize high-quality and discreet elegance over logos including Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli will be a shop mainstay.<\/p>\n
The mood of the Muttontown Shopping Plaza store, “will be elevated, yet approachable,” Leah says. “We try to make sure we have something for everyone \u2014 whether it’s someone coming in and trying to buy their first designer bag, or seasoned resale shoppers.”<\/p>\n
The business\u2019 bestsellers include handbags, shoes, outerwear and dresses. Depending on the item and label, prices range from $300 to $10,000 and up. Consignors receive 40% to 70% on clothing items, and 50% to 80% on handbags, wallets and watches.<\/p>\n
The debut of the Weinsteins\u2019 flagship brick-and-mortar location coincides with their daughter Kit\u2019s first birthday. The shop is a physical manifestation of their passion for fashion and sustainability.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019re big believers in reselling and extending the life of fashion that already exists,” Leah says. “The day that I left my job, I went into this thrift store in Astoria,” she says. “I ended up thrifting a Chanel dress. I love to tell that story. It\u2019s a reminder to follow your dreams.”<\/p>\n
