She was a stickler for <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/royalty\/502814\/rules-royal-family-kate-middleton-have-to-follow\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rules and regulations<\/a>, a habit that began the moment she opened her eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"eMp64ShlLV7\" data-wc=\"29\">In her private chambers at the palace, the <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/homes\/825701\/nostalgic-royal-homes-photos\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">late queen<\/a> had a routine planned out for her flurry of royal staff who attended to her personal and business needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"eVJNZwmD_7i\" data-wc=\"33\">Helping her through her &#8220;long, and often arduous&#8221; days, maids, dressers, cooks and secretaries rushed to her aid, their work starting precisely at eight o&#8217;clock in the morning, when the monarch woke up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"e7Aa0iqE3Sz\" data-wc=\"28\">Finding solace in the comfort of a routine, <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/royalty\/513945\/queen-elizabeth-children-king-charles-princess-anne-prince-andrew-prince-edward\/\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">King Charles&#8217;s mother<\/a> &#8220;had solicitous staff ever in attendance and (for her) the comfort of a routine that rarely varied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"eoCbx8BPyJ4\" data-wc=\"31\">&#8220;At 8:00 a.m. Her Majesty\u2019s Dresser entered the royal bedroom with the &#8216;calling tray&#8217; and a pot of Earl Grey tea,&#8221; according to Giles Brandreth\u2019s new book, Elizabeth: An intimate portrait.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"eejyGlx-SQF\" data-wc=\"42\">The former Member of Parliament continued: &#8220;The curtains were drawn, the bath was run (to a depth of seven inches and a temperature of 72\u02da Fahrenheit &#8211; tested by thermometer, using Imperial measurements to the last), gently the Palace began to stir.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"euNFKmkElDO\" data-wc=\"54\">After bathing, it was time for the day&#8217;s schedule to commence. Giles explained: &#8220;At 10:00 a.m., the business of the day began: her private secretary appeared; correspondence was considered, state papers noted; if it was a morning for receiving ambassadors or the day of an investiture, Her Majesty studied her briefing material \u2013 closely.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/08da9cc85d8c-gettyimages-1430364897.jpg\"   width=\"673\" height=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Queen Elizabeth in a tiara smiling with her eyebrows raised\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" class=\"image he-image\"\/>\u00a9 Getty ImagesThe late queen was a stickler for protocol and rules when it came to her private chambers<br \/>\nThe Queen&#8217;s love of mornings\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"elvrJ7rEMRM\" data-wc=\"31\">As part of her waking-up rituals, the famous royal also enjoyed a slightly more conventional introduction to the world each day with a little dance to ABBA and BBC Radio 2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"eX-K1tNuSvz\" data-wc=\"29\">Close friend of Elizabeth and the late queen&#8217;s dresser, Angela Kelly, 68, recently reflected on their time spent together choosing outfits before her busy day of royal engagements started.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e7oktmURcsx\" data-wc=\"31\">She explained that the former monarch would move &#8220;side to side&#8221; every time the band&#8217;s hit, &#8216;Dancing Queen&#8217;, would come on the radio and that the pair had great fun together.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ehBsI7Yf7nr\" data-wc=\"39\">Angela told Vanity Fair: &#8220;When the song came on, she loved it, and both of us would dance. The queen would move from side to side and sing. Her Majesty loved singing and had a good voice. I didn\u2019t.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"esACac5UmZ2\" data-wc=\"43\">&#8220;I\u2019d get carried away and be dancing all round her like I was at a disco, and the Queen would tell me to &#8216;move over&#8217; because I can\u2019t sing, and we laughed.
