When it gets warmer out like now, and winter has ended, you know the streets to avoid your favorite or not-so-favorite pothole.

I’ve been avoiding Avenue C coming off 440 for the last 30 days, but you know what? The potholes were actually filled, so thank you to the Bayonne DPW.

We live in a society where most people are reactive to any given situation. When you are an elected official in the city, it takes a great deal of time and efforts, and knowledge to help grow a community.

It takes good planning, a clear short-term vision, and a long-term road map, so to speak.

One of the most important things in any city is to have safe streets, streets that are not littered with potholes, which cause accidents, and cost municipalities millions in emergency repairs, vehicle liability claims, and most importantly, public dissatisfaction.

Everyone knows reactive repairs cost 10 times more than proactive maintenance. How are potholes reported, usually by the website or phone calls to the city, but by the time they’re reported, they’ve already caused damage and complaints, so how do we fix this?

There are about 40 to 50 municipalities in New Jersey already using AI for pothole detection.

The process is simple, using an intelligent road monitoring system, the city could transform our garbage company into a powerful automated road defect detection network because they go up and down every street in Bayonne twice a week.

This instant detection can identify potholes, cracks, and defects with up to 93% accuracy, and measuring the size ,and the depth.

All these defects will appear instantly on an interactive map, and are geotagged and plotted on an interactive map with GPS coordinates and ready to export to DPW Crews for work orders, and then in turn turn into work orders.

This AI System can also provide a severity rating so we can prioritize the repairs and allocate the resources efficiently with precise measurements, including width, depth, and volume for each detected defect.

What’s even better is that response times can be monitored and used to data-driven metrics, guide strategic business decisions, increasing efficiency, improving customer satisfaction.

The progress of these repairs can also be monitored and evaluated for response times to the citizens of Bayonne in order to track performance.

Hopefully, sometime soon, if this system proves to be as good as it says it is, this could be provided on the city website. Residents can then see provable progress, and timestamped actions.

Yes, a city government that is actually being proactive for its residents.

Let’s move Bayonne, forward with proactive ideas on May 12 and dare to be different like me and vote 10 C for John Milan Sebik for your new Third Ward Councilman. Thank you.

John Milan Sebik
Bayonne 3rd Ward council candidate

In a letter to the editor, Bayonne 3rd Ward council candidate John Milan Sebik explains the implications of…

[39
47989,78253,78254,399,9,24,63,134,136,135
0":"post-201666","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-staten-island","8":"tag-2026-bayonne-city-council-races","9":"tag-bayonne-3rd-ward","10":"tag-john-milan-sebik","11":"tag-letters-to-the-editor","12":"tag-new-york","13":"tag-new-york-city","14":"tag-nyc","15":"tag-staten-island","16":"tag-staten-island-headlines","17":"tag-staten-island-news
["GET
