A degenerate NYC high school librarian allegedly preyed on an \u201cendless pool\u201d of Asian students for years \u2014 vacationing with them, buying them clothes and drooling over their \u201csmall and firm\u201d bodies, a damning report revealed.<\/a><\/p>\n

Maspeth High School educator Douglas Von Hoppe allegedly called one student 438 times and exchanged 965 text messages in just two years, and cultivated inappropriate relationships with at least 13 kids, the city\u2019s Special Commissioner of Investigation found, according to a scathing January report recently released to The Post. <\/p>\n

One student \u201cstarted feeding me from her chopstick. Biggest turn-on I\u2019ve had all year,\u201d he wrote in a creepy text to a friend, according to investigators for the city Department of Education\u2019s independent watchdog.<\/p>\n

Von Hoppe brought one student to a restaurant 16 times, and bought Valentine\u2019s Day gifts, SCI contended. \u00a0<\/p>\n

In another lecherous missive, he described two students he took on a trip who \u201ctook a outdoor shower at beach w bathing suits on.\u201d He wrote that one was \u201cso flawless w\/o makeup. I pretend I didn\u2019t notice but I can\u2019t forget that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Von Hoppe, 60, who has been employed by the DOE since at least 2008, incessantly called and texted students, met them for after-school tennis matches, took them to museums and parties, and bought the girls \u201ccute tops\u201d \u2014 all while claiming to be a mentor and father figure, according to the report first revealed by journalist Susan Edelman on her Substack.<\/a><\/p>\n

One student called him after showering, the educator wrote in another text to his pal. \u201cShe was lying on her bed with long wet hair, being flirty and seductive,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The married educator allegedly confessed to being \u201cemotionally involved\u201d with a student, telling his friend how turned on he was by the girl\u2019s \u201cskinny body\u201d and proclaiming she restored his \u201csex drive,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n

Von Hoppe\u2019s disturbing behavior was discovered when Manhattan Prosecutors unearthed the messages he exchanged with his friend, CPA Stephen Lyon, who was under investigation. <\/p>\n

Lyon pleaded guilty to three counts of insurance fraud in a scheme to defraud the New York State Insurance Fund of more than $18 million. He was sentenced in October 2023 to 2 1\/3-to-7 years in prison.<\/p>\n

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg\u2019s office shared the messages with SCI, which launched a probe into Von Hoppe in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cVon Hoppe\u2019s actions were grossly unprofessional, predatory, and manipulative, and his role as a high school teacher provided him with an endless pool from which to carefully select young women with whom he wanted to pursue relationships,\u201d the SCI report said. <\/p>\n

SCI urged then-Schools Chancellor David Banks to terminate Von Hoppe in a 2024 letter, but he was instead reassigned to a \u201crubber room,\u201d Edelman reported. He has been on the city payroll since then, earning $140,588 as of last year, records showed. <\/p>\n

Von Hoppe reached a deal with the city to \u201cirrevocably retire\u201d\u00a0at the end of this school year, two years after the SCI completed its investigation, the DOE said.<\/p>\n

\u201cVon Hoppe\u2019s conduct was predatory, manipulative, and wholly incompatible with his role as an educator. He used his position to identify and pursue vulnerable students, engaging in grooming behavior,\u201d said Special Commissioner Anastasia Coleman.<\/p>\n
