{"id":202209,"date":"2026-04-19T00:29:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T00:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/202209\/"},"modified":"2026-04-19T00:29:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T00:29:08","slug":"back-wall-collapses-at-vacant-brooklyn-building-forcing-neighbors-to-evacuate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/202209\/","title":{"rendered":"Back wall collapses at vacant Brooklyn building, forcing neighbors to evacuate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A rear wall partially collapsed at a vacant, run-down Brooklyn building, causing residents to be evacuated from a neighboring building on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The back of a three-story, mixed-use, vacant building came crashing down around 11:20 a.m. at Myrtle Ave. and Adelphi St. in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/04\/13\/man-jamel-davis-shot-death-16-year-old-stepson-smoking-inside-brooklyn-apartment-walt-whitman-houses-fort-greene\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fort Greene<\/a>, officials said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/buildings\/index.page\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The city\u2019s Department of Buildings<\/a> said that, upon investigation after the partial collapse, the building was deemed structurally compromised and in danger of further collapse.<\/p>\n<p>The structure previously had a deli on the first floor, but that commercial space was also vacant at the time of the collapse.<\/p>\n<p>DOB issued a vacate order for the collapsed building, as well as its two neighboring buildings, one on either side of it. One of those other buildings, which was also vacant, was also determined to be in a state of serious disrepair, with a partially collapsed roof and significant interior water damage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Neighbors were evacuated after a large section of the rear wall of 347 Myrtle Ave. collapsed in Brooklyn on Saturday April 18, 2026. 1229. The residents were offered emergency relocation from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org\/?srsltid=AfmBOooA5KvdUa1webxJXlbwyYPaSkcifpb4ftitCLladv2ZSEW8190H\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">American Red Cross<\/a>, DOB said.<\/p>\n<p>No one was injured in the incident. The FDNY said the scene was brought under control by around 12:42 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>A 311 complaint filed with DOB last June stated the building, 347 Myrtle Ave., had a severely cracked support beam and that its rear facade was \u201cseparated from the building and leaning.\u201d A DOB emergency response team, however, was unable to gain access to the building when an occupant refused them entry.
