The King is to serve as patron of a newly established charity
\ncreated in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, as part of
\ncommemorations marking what would have been her 100th birthday.<\/p>\n
The organisation, known as the Queen Elizabeth Trust, will
\nprovide funding to communities across the United Kingdom to support
\nthe redevelopment and improvement of shared local spaces. Its work
\nis expected to focus on breathing new life into underused
\nbuildings, enhancing green areas and strengthening neighbourhood
\nhubs, while also supporting the skills and training needed to
\norganise community events.<\/p>\n
The trust is one of three major initiatives being formally
\nintroduced to honour the late monarch\u2019s legacy. Alongside it, plans
\nwill be unveiled for a national memorial and gardens in St James\u2019s
\nPark, as well as a digital tribute celebrating her life and public
\nservice.<\/p>\n
A one-off government endowment of \u00a340 million will be used to
\nlaunch the projects, with the intention of encouraging further
\nfinancial backing in the future.<\/p>\n
Sir Damon Buffini, who has been appointed founding chair of the
\ntrust, said the initiative represented a significant opportunity to
\nreinvigorate community life across the country. He described the
\ncharity as a means of restoring places where people from different
\nbackgrounds and generations can come together, adding that he hoped
\nto work closely with communities to understand their needs and
\nambitions.<\/p>\n
The trust follows extensive consultation carried out over two
\nyears by the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, which engaged with
\ngroups nationwide to shape the project. Lord Janvrin, who chairs
\nthe committee, said he hoped the charity would inspire people to
\nreflect on the late Queen\u2019s lifelong commitment to fostering a
\nsense of belonging and civic engagement.<\/p>\n
Further details of the projects are expected to be announced as
