Manhattan High softball split its Saturday trip to Olathe, falling 13-8 to Olathe North before bouncing back with a 9-7 win over Olathe South.<\/p>\n
In the opener, Manhattan couldn\u2019t recover from a pair of big innings, as Olathe North used a five-run second and a six-run seventh to pull away.<\/p>\n
The Eagles struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of an error before breaking things open in the second with a grand slam to build a 7-0 lead.<\/p>\n
Manhattan stayed within reach behind timely hitting as Josi Alesana delivered the Indians’ biggest swing of the game, driving in four runs with her own grand slam. Josey Ball and Kat Ball each collected two hits as the Indians totaled nine hits offensively.<\/p>\n
Olathe North added six runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.<\/p>\n
In the circle, Allison Heidrick went the distance, allowing 13 runs (seven earned) on 12 hits while striking out four.<\/p>\n
Manhattan responded in Game 2 with one of its strongest starts of the season, jumping out early and holding off a late push to take a 9-7 win over Olathe South.<\/p>\n
The Indians scored two runs in the first inning, added two more in the second, and broke things open with a five-run third to build a 9-0 lead.<\/p>\n
Gracyn Neitzel delivered the key blow in the third, launching a three-run home run to center. She finished with four RBIs on two hits.<\/p>\n
Manhattan totaled 10 hits, with Neitzel, Alesana, Aslyn Foveaux and Ava Gaither each collecting two hits. Olathe South chipped away late, scoring in multiple innings to cut into the lead, but Manhattan held on down the stretch.<\/p>\n
Alesana earned the win in the circle, going the distance while allowing seven runs, with one earned, on nine hits, striking out six.<\/p>\n
