STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A multi-vehicle collision in West Brighton Monday night sent a person to the hospital and left several cars with significant damage.<\/p>\n
The crash was reported to the FDNY around 10:13 p.m. outside Li Greci\u2019s The Staaten at 679 Forest Ave., according to a department spokesperson.<\/p>\n
One person refused medical attention at the scene and another was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n
The condition of the patient was not revealed by the FDNY.<\/p>\n
Donna Long, a Grymes Hill resident, was just leaving an event hosted at The Staaten moments before the collision.<\/p>\n
Long, who was accompanied by two friends, left the venue for her car parked across the street. Just as the women were pulling away, Long heard the crash. She immediately grew concerned as moments prior the ladies were escorted to their vehicle by the owner of The Staaten.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe parked the car and we went over, most importantly to see if anybody was hurt,\u201d Long told the Advance\/SILive.com.<\/p>\n
In all, she says at least four or five cars were involved in the destruction.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne car in particular, the wheel was off,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
One of the parked cars belonged to a waitress at The Staaten who just moved her vehicle, according to Long.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were concerned for the driver of the car that was hit head-on because he really looked dazed,\u201d Long explained. \u201cHe said he felt OK, but that his neck was bothering him, but he was certainly dazed.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was once EMS arrived on scene that Long left.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t fall asleep last night, and all day today I kept reliving the sound, the sight of it and the closeness of us just missing it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt could have been a real disaster\u201d added Long. \u201cI mean it was bad enough and I feel terrible for the people whose cars were just parked … but, you know, cars can be replaced, people can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the wake of the collision, at least three vehicles were seen with significant damage.<\/p>\n
One vehicle, a white SUV, ultimately found itself partially on the sidewalk with extensive damage to the right driver\u2019s side. Images from the scene show the front, driver\u2019s side tire visibly off the vehicle.<\/p>\n
A second SUV could be seen pinned up against the driver\u2019s side of the SUV on the sidewalk. The front of this vehicle was visibly mangled.<\/p>\n
A third SUV was seen at the site \u2014 to the left of the second SUV \u2014 in one of the lanes of Forest Avenue. This vehicle sustained extensive damage to it\u2019s front end, which appeared to be up against the driver\u2019s side of the second SUV.<\/p>\n
A pile of debris from the damaging crash could be seen littering the street of Forest Avenue between the three vehicles.<\/p>\n
