The park\u2019s spring Mulch Fest takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon; meet in Juneteenth Grove, near the intersection of Cadman Plaza West and Tillary Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Parks Department drops off the mulch and tools, and everybody spreads it around the flower beds and trees,\u201d Gallo said. \u201cTrader Joe\u2019s supplies snacks, and Gristedes brings water.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-381686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Cadman-gardeners-02-Doreen-Gallo-by-Mary-Frost-600x450.jpeg\" alt=\"Cadman Park Conservancy President Doreen Gallo, in a wonderland of spring tulips in in Cadman Plaza Park\u2019s Juneteenth Grove. It\u2019s amazing how much work the little kids do \u2014 it\u2019s adorable,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to special events like Mulch Fest, a regular group of volunteers joins New York City Parks Department Gardener Nathan Grozan in Cadman Plaza Park every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. to help maintain the park\u2019s flourishing gardens.<\/p>\n<p>Pat Lucey, who is also a member of the Brooklyn Heights <a href=\"https:\/\/thebha.org\/issue\/promenade-gardens-conservancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Promenade Gardeners<\/a> (they meet Tuesday mornings), has been volunteering in the gardens for more than ten years. \u201cLook at these colors!\u201d Lucey said, pointing to the beautiful array of spring tulips filling Juneteenth Grove. \u201cEvery week it\u2019s something different.\u201d She added, \u201cThere\u2019s always a lot of weeds, too. Photo: Mary Frost\/Brooklyn Eagle<br \/>\nEarth Day at Brooklyn Bridge Park<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn Bridge Park celebrates Earth Day with numerous activities led by the park\u2019s horticulture and education teams and plenty of hands-on volunteer activities Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Programming includes nature walks for both kids and adults on Pier 1, with talks by experts on topics including birding; tree, plant and insect identification; workshops, such as \u201cBuild A Bird\u2019s Nest\u201d and a plastics \u201cupcycling\u201d demonstration; crafts; and recycling collections for textiles, gently-used books, clothing and toys. Photo: Mary Frost\/Brooklyn Eagle<br \/>\nEarth Day celebrations with Brooklyn Org<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn Org is connecting volunteers on Earth Day Saturday with numerous projects across the borough, including ten focusing on the environment. These include cleaning and caring for Bushwick Inlet Park; gardening along the Brooklyn Greenway; and composting at the Wyckoff House Museum.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As part of this event, the Brooklyn Heights Association is hosting two activities: one is making sandwiches to fill the community fridge, and another is a community litter pickup. They are also hosting a children\u2019s item drive and a book drive. Activities take place Friday through Monday.<\/p>\n<p>These include events such as \u201cExploring Marine Life in the Gowanus Canal\u201d and the \u201cGowanus Community Festival 2026\u201d with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy; a \u201cMarine Park Biomarathon\u201d; the \u201cPratt Institute City Nature Challenge\u201d event at Prospect Park; \u201cBuds, Birds, and Bugs Bonanza\u201d at Brooklyn Bridge Park hosted by Urban Park Rangers; seining at Valentino Pier in Red Hook and more. Photo: Mary Frost\/Brooklyn Eagle<br \/>\nReturn of car-free streets<\/p>\n<p>The New York City Department of Transportation\u2019s car-free streets will be returning for Earth Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Select streets will go pedestrian-only to host activism and education surrounding environmentalism and sustainable transportation, along with performances and installations by local artists. Brooklyn\u2019s main event will take place on 5th Avenue, from 41st Street to 45th Street.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the celebration, Citi Bike will offer one-day passes for unlimited 30-minute rides on regular Citi Bikes, sponsored by Lyft.
