The New York state Legislature on Monday passed a fifth state budget extension \u2014 now nearly three weeks past the budget’s deadline\u00a0\u2014 which was sent to Gov. Kathy Hochul for her signature.<\/p>\n
The extender runs through Wednesday and funds Medicaid, payroll, schools and other essential expenses. The budget was due April 1.<\/p>\n
State lawmakers are expected to return to Albany on Wednesday to pass another extender.<\/p>\n
Major differences on the governor\u2019s proposal to reform the state\u2019s car insurance laws and dial back the 2019 climate law remain key sticking points, as well as differences over raising taxes on the wealthy, school aid and Tier 6 pension reform. There have been frustrations among some lawmakers about the slow process.\u00a0<\/p>\n
